Oh, I see how it is. So, I got one of the new machines here at work (as there was a machine shortage, in fact.) New machine is very nice, if not sadly only single-monitored, as opposed to the double-monitored machines other people get. Fine, I can deal. However, there's something on the new machine that is preventing me from using Firefox. People, I'm sorry, but I can't live without tabbed browsing anymore. Seriously.

(Yes, I know the new IE has tabbed browsing. No, we aren't using the new IE.)

Got here late, again. Only to find I'm more or less flying solo today. And no, I don't know how to do everything here yet. Long day ahead.

[UPDATE: OK, more people will be here in a couple hours.]
[[UPDATE #2: The sky is, in fact, a hazy shade of winter. 9:18 am]

Sounds less like you are getting hosed, and more like you are spoiled ;)

I use an older version of IE due to an incompatibility with the main document control program at work. The Yahoo toolbar lets me do tabbed browsing.

something of a defense
There's twice as many people on Wednesdays, because that's when the two halfs of the week overlap (shifts are Sun-Wed, or Wed-Sat.) Just a feature of four-day workweeks.

And the new guy is alone, which is lame, but that is why they hired me, as before that the other guy was flying solo all the time. And backup will be here at 11 or 12 or so.

You could try Portable Firefox.  It's intended to be carried around on a usb stick or whatever, but I bet its non-installed nature might get around the problems you're having with firefox.

There was a fight a while ago to get IS to officially allow/support firefox, but it failed because, well, I'll keep my negativity to myself.
