So, yes.

Ended up clubbing last night to celebrate leesalogic's birthday. Good times! Chronos is pretty decent. The dance floor isn't overly large, but it's got a nice atmosphere. Stayed sober, as the sleep deprivation didn't need any help from alcohol. OK, one drink bought by a cool d00d, but that's it.

Oh, and that Voltaire guy was playing, but, whatev. Gave us a chance to chat with friends. A couple of his songs are amusing, but a whole concert? It's like filking.

Was glad we made it out to see the Virginia crew, has been too long.

ATTENTION FELLOW CLUBBERS: what the heck is the name of the awesome "bang bang" song? I always dig it, and I always forget to track that down.

Snuck in three-ish hours of sleep. For those playing along at home, that's nine hours in three days. Cruising along.

Coincidentally, that's headlining my first year-end news wrapup post, which should hit... tomorrow.

I recognized the song (or at least the sampling) from the Cher version. I am guessing this might be it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Bullys

This bears investigation!

Hard to be sure, but I checked out iTunes, and there's a version by Audio Bullys featuring Nancy Sinatra that sounds familiar.

I think it's a good candidate.

It's the first time I think I've heard this (version of the) song. I also thought it pretty cool.

Nancy Sinatra "Bang Bang"

Oh, and it's off the Kill Bill Soundtrack. :-)

I seriously doubt the one we hear is the original version, though.

It is just a remix of the original. So, it is Nancy Sinatra, technically.

I was thinking the woman in the video *could* have been Nancy Sinatra, but if recorded recently a little difficult to buy since she's in her 60's now.

Found the following at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nancy_Sinatra

In 2003 one of her recordings — a cover of Sonny Bono-penned song "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" — was used in the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill: Vol. One. In 2005, the Sinatra's recording was sampled separately by the Audio Bullys and Radio Slave into dance tracks (renamed into "Shot You Down" and "Bang Bang" respectively), and by hip-hop artist Young Buck in a song titled "Bang Bang". Sinatra originally recorded the song for her second Reprise album, How Does That Grab You? in 1966. She and Billy Strange worked on the arrangement, and it was Sinatra's idea to change the feel of the song from a mid-tempo romp (as originally sung in Cher's hit single) to a ballad. Sinatra's father liked her version so much that he asked her to sing it on his 1966 TV special A Man and His Music, Part II. The footage of Sinatra's performance on that special was used in the Audio Bullys' music video of "Shot You Down."

Ahh... is this the same remix we heard last night though?

Was too busy dancing to pay close attention, but the parts of the video I remember seeing looked like at least some of the video. I remember noting the retro-looking blonde singer.

So...it's the closest match I've been able to find thus far. :)

Is it retro if it's really Nancy Sinatra?
Jake Thrashjakethrash on December 25th, 2006 11:09 pm (UTC)
Well, prior to identifying her as Nancy Sinatra I would have said retro. I guess if it really was her it's not retro.

Re: 9 hrs. in 3 days
I assure you, it wasn't by choice.

OK, last night was by choice, but the other two weren't.

Will be catching up tonight, though, so no worries. (I didn't even drive today.)

I got ten hours of sleep last night.

Mind you, the first digit on the clock when I went to bed was a fucking NINE.  I think they put some sedatives in my lunch yesterday.

I'd be more surprised if they weren't putting them in before this point.

Actually, I feel better today than yesterday.

Thusly, this only proves that clubbing cures all ills.
