Night Watch was pretty damn good, I have to admit. They do an excellent job of creating a very engrossing world and setting up a convincing and epic storyline, and cram it all into a fast-paced and action-packed movie. With a couple really good horror scenes. And a couple good laughs. (Excellent use of subtitles, as well.) Very Russian, and highly recommended. Might even catch it a second time if it comes closer, like, say, the Charles. I can't wait to see the next two.

New (indy theater) trailers:
* Tsotsi - One of them there Best Foreign Picture nominees, looks decent.
* Art School Confidential - See, it's a high school movie, but it's set at an art school. Nevertheless, decent-looking cast, funny trailer. (And it is based on the comic book of the same name.)
* The Syrian Bride - Or, "My Big Not-So-Fat Syrian Not-Wedding." Arranged marriage across the border is stymied when they won't let the bride over into enemy territory, so, she, uh, sits there. Maybe.
* The Beauty Academy of Kabul - Could be good, could be too feel-goody. We'll see.
