"Scotland Yard acknowledged Monday that Jean Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian electrician mistaken for a suicide bomber, had done nothing unusual before he was shot after entering the London subway last month. Police said Menezes used a ticket to enter and had not jumped a turnstile, and they said he was not wearing a padded jacket that could have concealed a bomb."

I am actually quite sad over Graham's firing. Now what am I going to listen to?

NPR?

I dislike that timeslot on NPR, too.

I have to say, at least he stuck by his guns. I am not saying what he did was right, but at least he didn't retract his statement with a glossed-over fake apology. That takes freakin' guts.

Pfft. I don't admire tenacity in prejudice.
Tales from a suburban touristasimplelife on August 23rd, 2005 01:32 pm (UTC)
People are scarier when their prejudice is hidden, rather than upfront. At least you know where he stands, instead of always wondering what he REALLY thinks.

Honestly, his rascism/sexism outraged me on more than one occasion.

When he was first hired, he had a 2-hour show from 10-noon, and Sam Donaldson had the 9-10am slot. Donaldson was let go -- to my great dismay -- because I guess he wasn't very... exciting? Graham's timeslot was extended and my initial reaction was one of loathing. WMAL done ruined my drivetime! As I continued to listen, though, I realized the man was more Libertarian than rabid idiot conservative, and he was definitely thought-provoking and often entertaining. I think WMAL made a huge mistake firing him. (Am I the only person who listens to WMAL?)

After reading some more on him, I am disinclined to agree.

but then again, I'm no WMAL listener.

I dont listen to Rush or Hannity. In fact, Rush is totally usless and I hate Hannity with the fierceness of 100 firey suns. But WMAL's drive-time personalities were always all right: Graham in the morning and Chris Core in the evenings.

I don't have to agree with someone to find him interesting.

Whoa, we sent our entire army up north! The things you learn :D

It's been going on for weeks, it even made the front page a week or two ago. Seriously people, we're the BIGGEST country in the world, let 'em have the dumb island.

The big news here today is the media stalking Karla Homolka in Montreal.

Pat Robertson is now officially NOT CHRISTIAN.

Also, it is crude and bigoted to label Islam as a terrorist organization. But I agree with many other authors you've posted here saying that all Muslims need to take a stand against extremism in their religion, and not sit on their hands about it. There's a big difference between that and calling all Muslims terrorists, though.

I have also repeatedly applied this logic to Christians. Either you're vocally against the fundementalists or you're silently on their side. Much like the Muslim extremists, they think that all the people of their faith are on their side except for the ones who are very vocal in their opposition to extremism.
