Courtesy Dan Froomkin, huge rock star:

"From the beginning, our goal in Iraq has been to promote Iraqi independence - by helping the Iraqi people establish a free country that can sustain itself, rule itself, and defend itself."
-President Bush, 4/12/2005

"And our mission is clear, to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Saddam Hussein's support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people."
-President Bush, 3/22/2003

The goal sure seems to have changed in a couple years. Plus the revisionist "from the beginning" statement.

Or, you could write it like this, "And our mission is clear...to free the Iraqi people." At which point it's supports the 04/12/2005 statement pretty well. I'm not saying the emphasis hasn't shifted signifigantly in the past few years, I'm just saying I don't think your quotes are particularly good evidence.

Sure, if you want to edit to quote to support your conclusion, go ahead.

Mission statements.
Well, as long as he's sure 'bout that.
