oh jesus. my (thai) dad and i have been trying to get ahold of his sister for a few days now, but we've been just missing each other the past few times she or my dad have called. furthermore my dad says thai people aren't big into answering machines... so i hope we can catch someone over there to let us know everyone's okay. fortunately none of my family live in phuket, and if those concentric circles on the BBC map are accurate, bangkok doesn't look like it got hit too hard. not nearly as hard as the islanders. but all my aunts, uncles, and cousins live in bangkok, so i still worry about them. but my grandfather, whose health we always worry about, should have been spared this event; he refuses to move to bangkok, and remains in a rural part of northern thailand, nowhere near the coast.

at any rate, i haven't been reading much LJ lately, so it's weird i just happened to find out about this because i couldn't sleep tonight, so i got online and your link. so um, thanks. it's a shitty thing to have happened, especially since it hit some of the poorest people on earth, but i'm glad i know about it now.

thank you, my dad did speak to his father right when he woke up this morning, and grandpa assured us that our other family members are okay. some weren;t even in bangkok due to taking a brief vacation up north, but yeah, he said even those who were in bangkok were fine. i would feel better if i could speak to my relatives personally, but for now i will take grandpa's word for it. :/

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be at least a week before we have a good tally.
