THE GOOD
OK, the venue is tiny, and the crowd was scary, at first. Very many locals, you know. But the space was big enough for the crowd, and the crowd was actually pretty decent and friendly. And a couple of them really liked dancing.
Despite the other drawbacks, I speak without fear of contradiction when I say a good time was had by all.
THE BAD
Their set list was small. I mean, really, not much to pick from. We more or less found enough to get by, but that's about it.
Men's room: no door on the stall. Just sayin'.
Oh, and I am neither joking nor exaggerating when I say that to turn in your song, you just tore off a scrap of the Keno cards that were at every table, and wrote it on that. Professional!
THE UGLY
There was *lots* of country to pick from. I mean, a whole lot. Oh, and every Phil Collins song like ever, randomly.
THe parking could have been more plentiful.
And I spilled some soda on the list today, because I am a dork, so the last part got kind of messed up. Please correct me where I erred.
SONGS WE DID
Me: "Rock Lobster" (Note: two other people did a duet of "Love Shack" like three songs before.)
"Dara": 4-Non Blondes, "What's Up" (Mental note: Dara needs a code name, add her to the list.)
McShifty: "My Generation" (He *nailed* it, and the crowd loved it.)
BadHand: "Travelin' Man" (Big hit, as always.)
Me: "Time After Time" (Went over better than I expected. I even got a few couples slow dancing!)
Regent: Sheryl Crow, "The First Cut Is The Deepest"
"Dara": Billy Joel, "Uptown Girl" (!)
Ivy: Led Zeppelin, "Whole Lotta Love"
McShifty: Beatles, "When I'm Sixty-Four" (Here I announced that he's a karaoke shark, and we shouldn't bet against him.)
Spence: Chris Isaak, "Wicked Game"
Spence: Guns N Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle"
Regent: "Addison Road"
Me: "Unchained Melody" (Aw yeah. Got even *more* couples up slow-dancing.)
"Dara": "Shameless"
BadHand: "Copacabana" (D.A.M.N.)
McShifty: "That's Life"
BadHand: "Sweet Dreams" (Again, did I write this down wrong?)
McShifty: "Wouldn't It Be Nice"
McShifty: "Hey Jude"
SONGS OTHER PATRONS DID
Gordon Lightfoot, "Sundown"
"Redneck Woman" (One of the loud and drunk girls who were having a birthday party there.)
Sir Mix-A-Lot, "Baby's Got Back" (The drunk party girls, in a duet. They beat BadHand to it!)
Helen Reddy, "Delta Dawn"
"Redneck Woman" (One of the *other* girls in that same party, later in the night. Bad form, IMHO.)
Dixie Chicks, "Goodbye Earl" (The lyrics to this are just freaky.)
"Play That Funky Music"
OTHER NOTES
I held off on unveiling any Monkees, since their biggest fan wasn't able to join us.
I *need* to learn the words to "I Wanna Know What Love Is". *Need*.
Did I mention every song by Phil Collins? Yeah, weird selections.
Again, a thousand thanks to Baroness for bebe-sitting, and making this all possible for me.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
[Walking in.]
Jen: By the way, the chairs are sharp.
[Handing her the book.]
Me: By the way, this is moist.
