"11th April 1969 is a watershed moment in the depiction of violence on British television screens. Throughout the Sixties the fight scene had become a staple of TV drama through its wide use in the glossy Lew Grade action shows and the daring ideas of writers and producers in that decade led to the boundaries being pushed back further and further in an era when everything seemed ripe for experimentation. Now, in Big Breadwinner Hog, there was a show doing both. The arguments raged about how appropriate it was to depict such acts and the vile characters carrying them out."
