In Theaters: The Secret World of Arrietty

As noted earlier, took Z. to see The Secret World of Arrietty this past Sunday. It's not directed by Miyazaki, but it is Studio Ghibli and they really, really took their cues from his other works. A highly enjoyable family flick, it is packed with a vast attention to detail (I love how the liquids act) and a smattering of subtle adult themes to help drive things along. I never read the original book, but M. explained the movie is only tangentially related, but I don't think it suffers any for that. And the cat is dynamite. Worth seeing on the big screen.

New trailers:
* The Pirates! Band of Misfits - I dig on Wallace and Gromit, but I am not feeling this.
* Chimpanzee - Latest of Disney's big screen documentaries, with extra cred granted by the presence of Jane Goodall. And, cute monkeys!
* The Lorax - Longer trailer, reveals more of the framework. Still sharp.
* Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted - Is this necessary, with the Penguins TV show giving us all the best characters already?

Leaks, the Bloop, and hating rap and opera

* Good read: on Deep Throat, leaks and the place of journalism.
* Yeah, about those austerity measures overseas...
* Marc Lynch on helping the Syrian rebels without military action.
* Will the Supreme Court end affirmative action?
* The other reason Romney is in trouble.
* Kevin Drum on and Romney's lack of a tax plan and Santorum's fallacies.
* Racing to the bottom of the Mariana Trench
* Easy sell: mysterious noises recorded from the ocean depths.
* Why do people hate rap and opera?
