News

Fires, ice, superbugs, and hate

"It's been a summer of near biblical climatic havoc across the planet, with wildfires, heat and smog in Russia and killer floods in Asia. But the moment the Petermann glacier cracked last week - creating the biggest Arctic ice island in half a century - may symbolize a warming world like no other."

CATCHING UP:
* Ugh. Anti-Islamic hate spreads nationwide. Religious freedom, people! One of the reasons they founded the United States!
* "If Americans understood just how many trillions their military was really spending on protecting oil, they wouldn't stand for it."
* This should really be bigger news: different factions of Mexican police fighting each other.
* Meanwhile, Russia is in flames.
* A radioactive labor dispute in Metropolis. (Courtesy rshackleford.)
* In pictures: a brief history of DC bipartisanship.
* A new superbug, NDM-1, found in British hospitals.
* New study finds rate of early puberty for girls on the rise.
* HBO bets big on reclaiming its TV series throne.
* The big news here is, wasn't manga all supposed to be the future of comic books a few years ago?

Gaming

Two quick threads. First from the AE-WWII boards. Clever viewers might spot me in the background there, plotting to use my German occultists to defend the lair of the nefarious Dr. Wong.

Second is from the other game I went for, Pulp City. Superhero combat! Giant robot monkeys dropping cars on heads! That's the booth I spent many, many hours standing in this past week. Good times. I got a perfect record at the Pulp City tourney, by which I mean I lost every game. But, fun!

Couple quick generic sets from ICv2: one and two. Fun fact - the chick in the Arabian outfit nine pics down on page two there, she was at some booth down the aisle from us (maybe Last Night on Earth?) So she was walking past our booth at regular intervals pretty much all weekend.
