Over the weekend, M. and I took tze bebe to see Transformers. Good times! This is a classic example of why you can't listen to critics without knowing what they like. There is nothing wrong with this movie, as it delivered on its promise of giant robots punching each other. Did they change stuff from the old cartoon? Sure. Was the old cartoon pretty bad? Yeah. Was this movie entertaining? Oh, yeah. It's a good, dumb summer action movie, and moves along quickly enough that you don't even notice how long it is. Good times, catch it on the big screen.

(Detail: having that dude reprise his role as the voice of Optimus Prime was also a great call; however, it also really made me miss Starscream's voice actor. "Mighty Megatron!" Hee.)

New trailers:
* Crap, I lost my scrap of paper listing all the trailers we saw. The only ones I remember were the Simpsons trailer, which I remember because tze bebe has been singing the Spider-pig song ever since, and the mysterious new J.J. Abrams 1-18-08 trailer, which I am all over.

Analysis: "The White House faced fresh political peril yesterday in the form of a new intelligence assessment that raised sharp questions about the success of its counterterrorism strategy and judgment in making Iraq the focus of that effort." (Click here for further analysis.) (And some wrapup by Dan Froomkin.)

Hey, remember in the spring when Bush was incensed that the Iraqi parliament was planning to take a month off this summer? Turns out they are still planning it, but Bush is OK with it now.
