#1:
"If we had [an infant mortality rate] as good as Singapore's, we would save 18,900 babies each year. Or to put it another way, our policy failures in Iraq may be killing Americans at a rate of about 800 a year, but our health care failures at home are resulting in incomparably more deaths - of infants. And their mothers, because women are 70 percent more likely to die in childbirth in America than in Europe... We should celebrate this freedom that we enjoy in America - by complaining about and working to address pockets of poverty and failures in our health care system. It's simply unacceptable that the average baby is less likely to survive in the U.S. than in Beijing or Havana."

#2:
"But when historians look back at the Bush presidency, they're more likely to note that what sets Bush apart is not the crises he managed but the crises he fabricated."

#3:
"One aspect of the two-year study will involve followers of both religious and secular faiths being burnt to see if they can handle more pain than others."

UPDATE [10:29 am]
#4:
"So, let me see if I've still got it straight: The Bush administration wages war on the cheap, sending too few troops with too little armor to Iraq, but goes whole hog when it comes to throwing a party; it wants to divert District homeland security money for the inauguration while security forces harass District residents in the name of security."

OMG MY CABLE IS DEAD AND IT'S LESS THAN AN HOUR UNTIL LOST. Me, crying.

Reminder #1:
Tomorrow night, the karaoke, the Nuzback's in Laurel, 8 pm.

Reminder #2:
Friday night, the Zoe birthday soiree, my place, from 6:30 on. Cake-time is 7ish. After bebe is in bed, I'll force anyone still there to talk to me or watch a movie or play a board game or something. You even get to meet mt family, shock of shocks. (OK, not a shock for a lot of you, but still.)

And a super-special shout out to McShifty, who I called before the episode to tape it, just in case my cable went out again. And my cable went out again. So I ran to his place and borrowed the tape. Mag-ni-fi-cent.
