Hmmm, it's been a while since we had a...

Zoe is just about 6.5 months old now. The doc still thinks she will be over 6 ft. tall, which I remind everyone isn't from *my* gene pool. She still weighs about 20 lbs., which when you haul around the house in one arm for an hour, feels to be about 50 lbs. She remains the very picture of health.

She's one minor discovery away from crawling. All the concepts are there, she just doesn't quite have them in place. She's also a chatterbox, but technically no words. I'm pretty sure 'cat' will be her first word, since we're yelling it all the time (she has a word for cat, but it's indecipherable.) Oh, she also says 'da da,' but only in a long chain, so it's more 'da da da da da.' She also squints now, which cracks me up.

On July 30, 1945, during World War II, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine; only 316 out of 1,196 men survived the sinking and shark-infested waters.

Also, on this day, SailorTork was born! Her first birthday present: she gets to pick a new code name, because I know she hates this one. Heh.

Caught an episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy last night, and I admit it cracked me up. They're an amusing cast of characters, and are just a couple costumes away from re-enacting Mystery Men.

Interesting article on how Buffy as a franchise could replace Star Trek. Make your own comment there.

I wasn't going to post news links today, but the President's news conference (the eighth of his presidency! How ridiculous!) Collapse )
