"Grand Rapids residents bristled when Newsweek.com posted an article in January by another publication that ranked it 10th in a list of the top 10 dying cities in America. In addition to Grand Rapids, Flint came in ninth, while Detroit was seventh. But unlike those cities, Grand Rapids decided to fight back by creating a lip-dub video, which is basically a music video in which people lip-sync to a song.

"Set to the 1971 Don McLean classic, 'American Pie,' it has been seen more than 1.6 million times on YouTube since its debut May 26. Filmed on May 22 in downtown Grand Rapids, it features up to 5,000 people proving that Grand Rapids is very much alive, with shots of marching bands, a wedding, fire and police departments, major pyrotechnics, helicopter take-offs and a pillow fight."
