Term limits, doomspeakers, and Kilimanjaro
"In Iraq, here we are almost seven years after the invasion - hundreds of billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives and more than 4,000 American lives later - and the primary remaining 'justification' is that we're bringing freedom and democracy to Iraq. Yet the government we helped install and which we empower is becoming increasingly tyrannical, oppressive and brutal. We at least ought to take that strongly into account as we hear government claims that we need to remain, and escalate, in Afghanistan for the good of the people there."

* Another push to instate term limits in Congress.
* How Sri Lanka fought its war against terrorism.
* Not-so-big tent: Right-wingers target moderate Republicans. Speaking of which: all politics is local.
* Hmmm. New bill to restrict misinformation by anti-abortion centers.
* The ice on Mount Kilimanjaro is still disappearing.
* Interesting: new movie offers a different viewpoint on America's paranoid apocalyptic fascination.
* And oddly, TV viewership is up.

Of course TV viewership is up
Why wouldn't TV viewership be up?
Unemployed people are have more time to watch TV.
Unemployed people and worried people are saving money by staying home instead of going out.
Bad economic times = more need for distraction.
It doesn't really matter much what's on TV, more people will be watching.

"The Mormon church for the first time has announced its support of gay rights legislation, an endorsement that helped gain unanimous approval for Salt Lake city laws banning discrimination against gays in housing and employment."
