The title is misleading...I walk away disgusted
Saying Obama is extending benefits to same sex couples infers a lot that just isn't true. His memo lacks any real change and appears to be just trying for good PR.
It allows family friendly sick leave to apply to your partner/partners kids. Most supervisors were already allowing this.
It allows partners to enroll in long term care. Which the government doesn't subsidize the cost of anyway. And the benefit wasn't limited to only spouses in the first place. And each applicant goes through a stringent underwriting process and may be denied.
It allows some health care/housing rights for Foreign service employees, which is a very small group.

I've actually seen this complaint elsewhere: that they looked for something easy to give a show of support, but that people aren't buying it.
