Y'know, I've been waiting for this movie for a long time, back when I heard the Weinsteins were only going to release this on 50 screens (to fulfill their contract) and then dump it straight to DVD because they didn't expect it to do well, but that was over six months or more ago, and I hadn't heard any more news about it until a few weeks back.

I mean, a truth-about-the-Beowulf-poem with Jesus AND Hellboy in a movie with Norsemen fighting aliens? What's not to like?

The moment in the trailer where the old king is telling the short, beardless outlander that they're not scared of his children's stories reminded me of Poul Anderson's classic SF short story "The Man Who Came Early" in which a WWII soldier gets sent back to Iceland's Viking era and not only doesn't become a leader, but fails to win any supporters at all (his attempts to raise the tech level fail since he doesn't know any intermediate tech, i.e. can't recognize or mine magnetite, so can't create compasses, etc.) ... things don't end well for him.

Ooh!

It does sound like a lot of fun.

And it puts me in the mood to watch my MST3K tape of The Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent. Perhaps tomorrow, since I should go to bed soon.
