Welcome to America, 2008
Top read: the Pentagon's 'media analysts', forming the propaganda wing of the military-industrial complex. (Bonus coverage from Howard Kurtz.) "The jaw-dropping story is based on 8,000 pages of e-mail, transcripts and records that the Times obtained by suing the Defense Department."

CAN'T TRUST THAT DAY:
* "The BTK case was an early use of an emerging tool in law enforcement: analyzing the DNA of a suspect's relatives."
* The shifting line between fighting terrorism and not getting convictions.
* As it turns out, the war isn't the only cause of the failing economy. Awesome.
* Good read: Frank Rich on the controversial ABC debate.
* American workers struggle to deal with an e-mail tsunami."
* "This paranoid style gibes with the content of the film, which is less an attack on evolution than a conspiracy theory about the evolutionists who control our government."

It is pretty sad that they know an actual ID vs. evolution argument would go nowhere for them, so instead of say, learning something, they switch to plan B, which is discrediting people who understand science as being some kind of quasi-religious fanatics, or an only slightly different kind of cultists. I really hope that our society doesn't get dragged into such a moronic argument - that would make me feel like we really are entering some kind of new dark age, or at least a intermittently heavily shadowed age.

For context, I just finally finished reading "Under the Banner of Heaven" so my optimism/pessimism ratio with regards to people's capacity for religious reasoning is at an abnormal low.

Actually, I use one of the tools mentioned in that article (Xobni) to help control my inbox. I don't go to it daily, but it has saved my ass a couple of times when I needed to sort through and find a particular email.
